Calafate is the emblem of Patagonia. This bush produces the delicious violet berry which is collected in the summer time. It tells the ancient legend that, “whoever eats Calafate will be trapped by its charm and will always come back to the Patagonia”.
They grow in small, little hills, on the banks of rivers and streams, in forest clearings and humid areas. The fruit is difficult to farm, being that it has spines up to 20 cm long.
Calafate stands out because of its low-calorie, antioxidants, nutritious and medicinal qualities.
